KP PA body discusses excise department performance, reasons of fire eruption in warehouse

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Apr, 2026) A meeting of Standing Committee of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control chaired by Sajjad ullah here on Thursday reviewed performance and progress of excise department.

The meeting was held at Provincial Assembly Secretariat and attended by Malik Tariq Awan, Abdul Muneem, Zahid Ullah, Nisar Baz, Ms. Afshan Hussain and Shazia Tamash besides Secretary Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Advocate General and relevant officials.

The committee conducted a detailed review of the performance and progress of excise department and decisions taken in the previous meeting. The meeting was briefed by secretary excise about the fire incident at excise warehouse informing that the incident was occurred due to an electrical short circuit that initially affected a nearby tree and subsequently spread to vehicles present in the warehouse.

It was informed that two inquiries into the incident have been completed and according to fact finding reports the fire was due to a short circuit.

It was decided that members would visit concerned warehouse.

During the meeting, excise officials also presented details of 987 vehicles of various types that had been confiscated over the past ten years. They informed the meeting that these vehicles were allocated to different government departments under Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Rule 215 through a formal committee keeping in view departmental requirements.

At the end, chairman and members expressed dissatisfaction with the data presented by the excise department. The committee directed the relevant authorities to present a comprehensive, authentic and detailed report in the next meeting including complete details of the confiscated vehicles, records of their allocation and a clear explanation of relevant rules and regulations.
