Lawyers stage demo for withdrawal of biometric condition for litigants

A protest demonstration was held at the District Bar Multan against the biometric verification condition for litigants and the imposition of fee

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st May, 2026) A protest demonstration was held at the District Bar Multan against the biometric verification condition for litigants and the imposition of fee.

The demonstration was led by Supreme Court advocate and former president of the High Court Bar Association Multan, Syed Riaz-ul-Hassan Gilani.

Lawyers described the biometric verification condition an injustice to litigants, and demanded its immediate withdrawal.

Addressing the gathering, Syed Riaz-ul-Hassan Gilani said that the protest would be expanded to every tehsil and district and later a long march would be taken out if their demands were not accepted.

He stated that Rs 200 fee for biometric verification was an additional burden on the poor citizens. Out of this amount, he added, Rs 60 was allocated to bar associations and Rs 20 for court staff, who were already receiving salaries and privileges.

During the protest, a female lawyer Shamim Akhtar advocate fell unconscious due to intense heat. Rescue 1122 was called, and she was shifted to Nishtar Hospital Emergency in an ambulance.

A large number of lawyers participated in the protest, including Nasheed Arif Gondal, Syed Iqbal Mehdi Zaidi, Syed Zakir Hussain Naqvi, Malik Mehboob Sandila, Sarfraz Hussain, Syed Hussain Ali Bukhari, Ansar Dharala, Jehanzeb, Irfan Sandhu, Syed Manzoor Hussain Mehr, Haseeb Qadir, Sajjad Hussain Tangra, Allah Ditta, Kashif Mohsin, Saleem Rao, Iftikhar Gul, Nida Arif, Rana Israr, Saleem Khan Lodhi, Rana Irfan Matloob, Aitazaz Latif, Hassan Khan, Ghulam Nabi Tahir, Tahir Saleem Hanjra, Sobia Chaudhry, Sobia Aslam, Rana Tayyaba Farooq Kamboh and many others.
