The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday granted bail to Canadian national and Pakistani PhD scholar Hamza Ahmad Khan in a cybercrime case

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Apr, 2026) The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday granted bail to Canadian national and Pakistani PhD scholar Hamza Ahmad Khan in a cybercrime case.

Justice Waheed Khan approved his release against Rs 200,000 surety bonds.

During the hearing, Advocate Asad Jamal, representing the petitioner, told the court that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) had registered the case and taken Hamza into custody. The defence argued that he was entitled to bail and requested his release pending further proceedings.

The court accepted the plea and directed Hamza to submit surety bonds in accordance with its order.

The case, registered under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, alleges that Hamza posted anti-state content on social media platforms, including X and Instagram. After his bail was earlier denied by a judicial magistrate and a sessions court, he approached the LHC, which ultimately approved his release.
