LUMHS holds 21st convocation, Minister Ismail Rahu urges medical graduates to serve with compassion, excellence

HYDERABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Apr, 2026) The 21st annual convocation of Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS) Jamshoro along with 2nd convocation of Bilawal Medical College Jamshoro was held at LUMHS Campus Jamshoro.

Addressing the participants, the chief guest, minister for universities & boards Muhammad Ismail Rahu expressed that he was pleased for being invited as a chief guest on the occasion. Addressing the graduates and the postgraduates, he expressed that the medical profession had always remained vital. He said to graduates, “You are the fellows who can upgrade the quality of life of people by utilizing your expertise with humble attitude and sympathetic behavior. Your perfect attention can save a life and a little negligence may harm one thus every step taken by you must be perfect.”

The chief guest assured that the government will extend all the possible support to this prestigious institution in completing all the undertaken projects as well as future plans.

Addressing the convocation, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Ikram Din Ujjan expressed that the graduation ceremony was the most significant occasion in the University’s Calendar. Today, 1435 graduates and 272 postgraduates will be awarded degrees and diplomas for their achievements.

Prof. Ujjan further said that if we glance over just the last few years there had been marvelous progress made by Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences, and today he feels proud that our premiere institution stands in the row of world class universities.

He said, establishment of Bilawal Medical College for Boys had balanced the disequilibrium between male and female ratio of admissions in medical colleges, and creation of Liaquat Institute of Medical & Health Sciences Thatta within a shortest period of time was also a revolutionary step to provide modern health facilities to the ailing community of that area as well as delivering quality education to the students enrolled there.

He said that LUMHS services hospital was another milestone achieved by this University with an aim to provide health care facilities to the community of interior part of the province.

He highlighted health facilities provided to the people of district Dadu and Kotri, for which he said that the civil hospital Dadu & Kotri had been upgraded by the University.

Dr. Ikram said that LUMHS diagnostic & research laboratory had established a network of diagnostic facilities throughout the province and was really commendable that the poor ailing community was being benefited with this health facility on extremely subsidized rates.

He further added that considering the high cost of Dental treatment, a state of art advance dental care center had been established at Hyderabad to provide the treatment to the patients with dental issues on a very subsidized rates, and the center was operational from morning till evening, where a large number of postgraduate students were also trained by our learned dental faculty.

According to the LUMHS spokesperson, a total number of 891 graduates of MBBS, 163 BDS graduates, 48 Doctors of Physiotherapy, 51 Doctors of Pharmacy, 36 BioMedical Engineers, 83 graduates of Bachelors in Nursing, 47 in BS Radiologic Technology, 25 in BS Medical Laboratory Technology, 36 BS Forensic Biology, 27 BS Forensic Chemistry & Toxicology, 23 BS molecular Biology & Genetics along with 272 postgraduates in various fields were awarded with the degrees and diplomas, whereas various students were also awarded gold medals for their outstanding performance.
