ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th May, 2026) Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Digital Media, Fahd Haroon, on Wednesday emphasized the growing importance of the digital and information domain in national security.
He was addressing a dialogue with youth titled “Spirits Aligned: Celebrating Valor and the Vitality of Youth,” jointly organized by the Center of Pakistan and International Relations (COPAIR) and the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies (DSS), Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), in commemoration of Marka-e-Haq.
Speaking on the occasion, Haroon described Marka-e-Haq as a defining moment in Pakistan’s history, stating that it reflected the country’s unity, strategic foresight, and institutional strength.
He said the event would continue to be studied by historians and strategists for generations.
Paying tribute to the martyrs, he said their sacrifices formed the foundation of the nation’s strength and resilience, adding that their contributions would always remain etched in the national memory.
Highlighting the evolving nature of warfare, Haroon noted that modern conflicts are no longer limited to conventional battlefields.
He stressed that cyber and information domains have become critical fronts where narratives shape global perceptions.
“In today’s era, safeguarding the national narrative is as vital as defending territorial borders,” he said, adding that disinformation and hybrid warfare pose significant challenges to national security.
He observed that during Marka-e-Haq, Pakistan’s response in the information domain was coordinated and fact-based, which played a key role in countering misleading narratives.
Haroon underscored the need to strengthen digital ecosystems capable of promoting factual discourse and countering disinformation. He also highlighted the importance of collaboration between government institutions, academia, and media in developing a cohesive national strategy.
Referring to the role of youth, he said young Pakistanis must be equipped with digital skills as well as critical thinking abilities to distinguish between fact and misinformation. He described the youth as ambassadors of Pakistan’s identity on the global stage.
The SAPM also stressed the importance of national unity, noting that collective resolve remains Pakistan’s greatest strength in an increasingly polarized world.
He acknowledged the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, stating that under their guidance, Pakistan has demonstrated strategic clarity, diplomatic maturity, and national purpose.
The ceremony concluded with a call to further strengthen digital ecosystems, promote truth, empower youth, and uphold the principles of justice and unity that define Marka-e-Haq.
The event was held at Quaid-i-Azam University and was attended by academics, members of the armed forces, policy experts, and students.
