KOHAT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Apr, 2026) Acting on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Kohat, Muhammad Nawaz, Additional Assistant Commissioner Aruba Iftikhar on Sunday carried out a series of comprehensive market inspections across multiple areas of the district, intensifying efforts to enforce hygiene standards and regulatory compliance.

During the inspections, a wide range of establishments—including grocery stores, kebab outlets, fruit vendors, and bakeries—were scrutinized. Several grocery shop owners were issued formal warnings over substandard sanitation conditions and the sale of illegal cigarettes. Authorities confiscated non-tax-paid cigarette stock on the spot, signalling a zero-tolerance approach toward illicit trade.

Kebab shops found in violation of official regulations were fined, while strict action was also taken against the sale of confectionery items lacking proper expiry dates.

However, a number of bakeries and retail outlets were found to be operating in accordance with prescribed standards, reflecting partial compliance within the market.

In a separate development, Ms Iftikhar conducted an unannounced visit to the District Headquarters Hospital Kohat, where she reviewed conditions in the emergency ward, assessed cleanliness, and inspected staff attendance protocols. Concerns were raised over the absence of a properly maintained attendance register and unsatisfactory explanations regarding duty rosters.

She subsequently issued firm directives to the relevant authorities, calling for immediate corrective measures to ensure improved administrative discipline and service delivery at the facility.
