Massive fire in Nowshera market reduces over 200 shops to ashes

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Jun, 2026) A wrecking fire broke out late Saturday night in Nowshera, causing widespread destruction and reducing more than 200 shops to ashes.

Initial reports on Sunday indicate that merchandise worth millions of rupees was destroyed in the blaze.

According to rescue and local sources, the fire erupted due to unknown reasons and rapidly spread throughout the market, engulfing shop after shop within a short period. The intensity of the flames left shopkeepers with little or no opportunity to save their goods.

The affected businesses included clothing stores, footwear outlets, general merchandise shops, electronics stores and other commercial establishments.

Large stocks of goods stored inside the shops were completely destroyed.

Eyewitnesses said the fire swept through the entire marketplace within a few hours, turning valuable inventories worth hundreds of thousands of rupees per shop into ashes.

The incident has caused severe financial losses for traders and business owners.

Preliminary estimates suggest that the total damage may amount to tens of millions of rupees. The local authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the losses.

Following the incident, affected traders appealed to the government for immediate financial assistance and compensation. Many shopkeepers said that their lifetime savings and investments were wiped out within a matter of hours.

No casualties have been reported so far, while officials continue to evaluate the damage and gather further details about the incident.
