LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Apr, 2026) Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that the project to provide medicines at home to patients suffering from cancer and heart diseases under the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical education is successfully underway.
He expressed these views while chairing a review meeting on Friday at the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education regarding the home delivery of medicines for cancer and cardiac patients.
The minister stated that Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif had launched the initiative in May 2024 to provide free medicines to heart and cancer patients at their doorsteps. He added that since January 1, 2025, a total of 13,08,444 consignments have been received for home delivery of medicines through the Patient Prescription Management (PPM) system.
Khawaja Salman Rafique further said that the medicine delivery system is being improved under an agreement with Pakistan Post to ensure timely and efficient service.
He noted that patients, particularly those living in densely populated areas, have expressed satisfaction and happiness over receiving medicines at their homes.
Secretary Health Punjab Azmat Mahmood, while speaking on the occasion, said that the project is fully operational in 13 selected government teaching hospitals across the province. He added that the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education is committed to providing the best possible health facilities to the public.
The meeting was attended by Special Secretary Operations Nabila Irfan, Special Secretary Development Ahmed Kamal Mann, Additional Secretary Admin Khadijat-ul-Kubra, Additional Secretary Procurement Anwar Bariar, and Deputy Director Monitoring Abdul Matin Janjua, along with other officials.
All Medical Superintendents (MSs) and Pakistan Post officers participated in the meeting via video link, while feedback on the project was also obtained from a third-party validation team.
