ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Apr, 2026) Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry on Wednesday announced a waiver of demurrage charges on auctionable containers at the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) in collaboration with the port's private terminals.
The minister stated that, through this constructive engagement, KPT will not charge demurrage on auctionable and auctioned containers if cleared within seven days of auction.
Terming the move a significant step toward clearing port congestion, Junaid Chaudhry said it will facilitate Customs in expediting the clearance process, benefit the trade sector by reducing delays from stuck containers, and create space for transshipment cargo arriving in Karachi.
The minister concluded by stating that the waiver reflects KPT's proactive approach to resolving congestion and its commitment to Pakistan's economic growth through active terminal participation.
