Minister orders digitization of toll plazas to ensure transparency, end overcharging

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Mar, 2026) Punjab Minister for Communication and Works (C&W) Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth on Wednesday chaired a meeting in which it was decided to digitise all manual toll plazas across the province to eliminate overcharging and ensure transparency in toll collection.

The meeting, attended online by Secretary C&W Sohail Ashraf and other senior officers, including special and additional secretaries, chief engineers, and XENs, reviewed measures to modernize the toll system.

It was decided that all 41 toll plazas of the Highway Department will be equipped with M-Tag facilities to ensure transparent toll payments.

The cash collection dashboard will also be upgraded to accurately record and monitor each transaction.

Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharth directed field formation officers to take strict action on complaints of overcharging and ensure the registration of cases against violators, adding that no leniency would be shown in this regard.

He further said that toll plaza infrastructure is being upgraded in line with modern technological standards to improve efficiency.

The minister added that these measures are being implemented under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to ensure a transparent and efficient toll system across the province.
