KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Feb, 2026) Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqi on Monday observed that Karachi is the charity capital of the world, no country in the world has been blessed with a city like this, and advised prominent NGOs that collect charity and donations from Karachi, should redirect their support to the non-formal schools serving in the city’s urban slums under the Directorate General of Basic Education Community Schools (BECS).
The Minister expressed these views while addressing as a chief guest distribution of teaching learning material and school bags among BECS Learners of Karachi in a ceremony at the Nazeer Hussain University, F.B.Area here.
He said that those large non-governmental organizations in Karachi, which collect donations from this city, are nurturing hunger on the streets, they should instead be supporting the non formal schools of BECS.
Dr. Khalid also conveyed a message to the Karachiites, the teachings of our faith is about charity begins at home. It starts from own home, parents, relatives, and neighbors.
Dr. Khalid Maqbool said that after immense difficulty, with great wisdom, and navigating through extensive legal proceedings, we obtained permission under a Supreme Court decision. It allows for non-traditional, non-formal, micro-schooling—wherever education is needed, the Constitution permits the federation to intervene in areas where educational gaps are.
This permit allows us to teach in homes, on floor mats. But there is no restriction in it; we can take it to the grand level, he added.
The Minister paid tribute to Director General BECS Hameedullah Khan Niazi, on behalf of Karachi, Pakistan, and all those who love education, for taking keen interest in the project.
He called upon all segments of the society to become partner of the Federal Ministry of Education in this project and redirect their Zakat, Fitrarna and donations towards this educational economy. This is what will reduce poverty, ignorance and oppression. This is what will teach the value of freedom and there is no other path to progress besides education, he added.
According to Planning Commission statistics, in the last three years, poverty has decreased in three out of four provinces of Pakistan.
He said that Pakistan did not come into existence suddenly; it came into existence for a purpose, for a reason, under an ideology.
Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqi also distributed educational material and bags among the students on the occasion.
