Mirpurkhas Mango festival cancelled amid funding shortfall, prevailing national situation

MIRPURKHAS, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Jun, 2026) The annual three-day Mango Festival, a flagship event that has long showcased the world-renowned mangoes of Mirpurkhas, has been cancelled this year due to the prevailing national situation and the non-release of funds by the Government of Sindh.

The decision was taken unanimously on Thursday during a meeting of the Mango Festival Management Committee held at the Commissioner Committee Hall under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Nawab Sameer Hussain Laghari. The meeting was attended by committee chairman Raees Arif Khan Bhurgari, focal person Gharam Baloch, committee members, horticulture officials, HESCO representatives, and other concerned authorities.

The festival, which was scheduled to take place from June 5 to June 7, has traditionally served as a major platform for promoting the region’s mango industry and highlighting Mirpurkhas as a leading mango-producing hub.

Deputy Commissioner Laghari noted that the event has played a vital role in introducing the city's premium mango varieties to national and international markets while also providing recreational opportunities for local residents.

Officials stated that the Sindh Government had not yet released the required funds, making it impractical to proceed with preparations. Considering the prevailing circumstances and the inability to delay arrangements any further, the committee unanimously resolved to cancel this year's mango exhibition, expressing hope that the celebrated event would return in the future under more favorable conditions.
