MUZAFFARGARH, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Feb, 2026) District administration and agricultural experts have agreed to accelerate efforts for establishing mango processing and drying plants to reduce post-harvest losses, enhance value addition, and strengthen the local economy through improved agro-processing infrastructure.
The meeting, chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Awaid Irshad Bhatti, brought together Deputy Director Agriculture (Extension) Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Bhatti, Dr Maqbool Ahmed, Senior Scientist at the Mango Research Institute Multan, representatives of private firms, mango exporters, drying companies, and other stakeholders linked to the processing sector.
During the briefing, officials highlighted that nearly 20 to 40 percent of mango produce is lost after harvest, emphasizing that modern processing and drying technologies could significantly reduce wastage and improve market value. Participants stressed the need for timely investment in processing facilities to preserve fruit quality and expand export potential.
Experts explained that post-harvest losses could be converted into economic opportunities through value-added products, helping farmers secure higher returns while contributing to foreign exchange earnings. Technical details regarding machinery, operational costs, labor requirements, and plant establishment stages were presented by Wasim Abbas Babar, a representative of a mango dryer firm, who assured full cooperation for future initiatives.
A detailed discussion was held on export prospects, investment opportunities, industry challenges, and the role of modern agro-processing in strengthening the supply chain. At the conclusion of the meeting, participants agreed that establishing mango processing and dryer plants is essential to reducing wastage, increasing growers’ income, and positioning the district as a key hub for quality mango-based products in international markets.
