National junior squash championship begins in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Jun, 2026) The All Pakistan National Junior Squash Championship 2026 began at the Qamar Zaman Squash Complex here on Wednesday, with over 100 boys and girls from across Pakistan taking part in the tournament.

The championship, organized by the Directorate of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, features Under-15 competitions with participants representing all four provinces, Islamabad, Pakistan Army and Pakistan Air Force.

The event was formally inaugurated by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Adviser to the Chief Minister on Sports and Youth Affairs Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand.

Senior sports officials, including Secretary Sports Muhammad Asif Khan and Director General Sports Tashfeen Haider, were also present at the opening ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand said the provincial government was committed to promoting sports by providing young athletes with opportunities to compete and showcase their talent through national-level events.

He said junior championships play an important role in identifying emerging talent and helping young players improve their skills through competitive exposure.

He added that the government was taking practical steps to strengthen sports development and expand access to modern sporting facilities across the province.

The adviser said efforts were underway to ensure equal sports opportunities in all districts so that talented athletes could excel at both national and international levels.

Officials from the Sports Department said the provincial government had made sports promotion a key priority, resulting in improvements in sports infrastructure and the regular organization of competitive events aimed at nurturing future champions.

The championship is expected to provide a platform for promising young squash players from across Pakistan to gain valuable experience and compete against some of the country's best emerging talent.
