NCCIA arrests two suspects involved in fake prize call scam

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th May, 2026) The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) conducted an operation in Dera Ghazi Khan and arrested two suspects involved in defrauding citizens through fake prize schemes.

According to an NCCIA spokesperson on Wednesday, the operation was conducted on the directions of Director NCCIA Punjab Muhammad Ali Waseem. The arrested suspects were identified as Ramiz Yousaf and Waqar Younis, both residents of DG Khan.

Police registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 and Pakistan Penal Code.

The spokesperson said the suspects used multiple mobile numbers and SIMs to contact citizens while posing as representatives of government prize schemes and welfare programmes.

The accused later demanded money from victims in the name of registration, taxes or release of prize money, while some victims were persuaded to transfer funds through banking applications, spokesperson added.

During the operation, authorities also recovered 120 SIM cards, more than 100 ATM cards and other digital evidence from their possession.

Director NCCIA Punjab Muhammad Ali Waseem appreciated the performance of NCCIA Multan and police team over the successful operation and announced cash rewards and commendation certificates for them.
