New ridership records set during free travel facility across Punjab

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Apr, 2026) New ridership records have been set during the 5-day free travel facility provided by the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA ) across the province.

According to PMTA data, about 5 million passengers traveled free on various metro bus and train services during the last five days.

Especially on April 8, 11 lakh 40 thousand passengers availed the free travel facility. A total of more than 47 lakh 96 thousand passengers availed the free travel facility from April 4 to 8.

According to the details, about 1.526 million passengers traveled on the Orange Line train while more than 8.5 million passengers were facilitated by the Lahore Metro Bus Service.

Likewise, more than 700,000 passengers traveled free on Speedo buses. 107,000 passengers in Lahore and about 200,000 passengers in Rawalpindi benefited from the Green Electric Buses.

Similarly, about 800,000 passengers could travel on the Pakistan Metro Bus Service.

More than 450,000 passengers benefited from the Multan Metro Bus System, while more than 150,000 passengers traveled free on feeder routes.

Furthermore, around 1.1 million passengers traveled in electric buses running in different districts. More than 6 million passengers benefited from the free travel facility in a total of five days.

Meanwhile, Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar Khan has directed to take further steps keeping in mind the extraordinary rush and directed the concerned officers to provide all facilities to the passengers and to immediately redress the complaints.

It may be mentioned here that for public convenience, 35 buses have been run free in Multan, 30 in Sialkot and another 35 in Gujranwala so that citizens can travel easily.
