LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Apr, 2026) The Punjab government, under the Punjab Forensic Science Authority, has implemented new rules for the functioning of crime scene units, under which the units will be established at divisional and district levels across the province.

Official sources say that according to the new rules, investigation officers have been entrusted with the responsibility of immediately reaching the sites of murder, suicide, rape and other crimes, while the responsibility of securing the crime scene will fall on the police or other law enforcement agencies.

According to the details, it has been made mandatory for officers to take complete photos and videos of the crime scene, make sketches and prepare written records.

Strict rules have been laid down for packing and sealing evidence in a proper manner, under which it is mandatory to record the scene number, sample number, date, time and complete description on each evidence packet. The evidence will be handed over to the police or the relevant agency with a formal receipt, while it has also been made mandatory to take the signature of the officer present at the scene as a witness during the transfer.
