MIRPUR (AJK) , (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point news - 4th May, 2026) A senior figure in the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has criticised India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA), describing its legal response in a case involving Yasin Malik as “misleading” and made in bad faith.
Raja Muzaffar, the US-based acting chairman of a faction of the JKLF, said the agency’s rejoinder to an affidavit submitted by Malik amounted to “a mala fide attempt to mislead the court”.
Malik, who heads the JKLF, has in recent years renounced armed and advocated a non-violent approach, Muzaffar said, comparing his strategy to that of Mahatma Gandhi.
In a statement released to the media here, Muzaffar said Malik had pursued a peaceful political path, engaging in dialogue and diplomacy to seek a resolution to the Kashmir dispute.
He added that Malik had travelled widely — including to the United States, the United Kingdom, the middle East and Pakistan — to present his case, and had met senior political figures from India and Pakistan, as well as US officials.
“I personally attended some of these meetings in the United States,” Muzaffar said, describing Malik as an active participant in international political discussions.
Muzaffar questioned the NIA’s characterisation of Malik, arguing that it was inconsistent with his record of political engagement.
“Such high-level interactions would not be possible for someone portrayed in this manner,” he said, adding that this, in his view, undermined the agency’s position.
He also described the case against Malik as politically motivated, and called on the Indian government to acquit him and begin a credible political dialogue to address the Kashmir issue.
The NIA has not publicly responded to these latest remarks.
