FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Mar, 2026) Over 1.8 million acres of land have been brought under wheat cultivation across the division during the current season, exceeding the fixed target by 0.27 percent.
The agriculture department expects an average yield of 40 maunds per acre this year, compared to last year’s 38.09 maunds per acre.
This was disclosed by Director Agriculture (Extension) Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood during a Divisional Wheat Crop Condition and Procurement Committee meeting, chaired by Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner Faisalabad, Capt (retd) Nadeem Nasir, attended the meeting, while deputy commissioners from Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, and Chiniot joined via video link.
Representatives of farmer organizations were also present.
During the briefing, Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood said the division has been consistently increasing wheat production by two to three maunds per acre annually, adding that this year’s yield is expected to exceed 40 maunds per acre.
He noted that the wheat crop is in good condition and that the wheat procurement policy will be announced in the coming days.
The Commissioner directed officials to ensure that farmers’ rights are fully protected during the procurement campaign and emphasized strict action against middlemen.
Later, while speaking to farmers, he said that another committee meeting would be held after the announcement of the wheat procurement policy.
