ISLAMABAD: Two new cases of Polio have been reported from Bannu and North Waziristan, raising Pakistan’s total count for 2026 to three.

The National Institute of Health laboratory in Islamabad has confirmed the presence of wild poliovirus. The affected children include two girls aged five months and two years.

With the emergence of these latest cases, concerns over the persistence of the virus have intensified. Earlier this year, the first polio case was reported from Sujawal District.

Officials from the National Emergency Operations Centre stated that a targeted anti-polio campaign will be launched in selected districts across the country later this month.

During the drive, approximately 19 million children are expected to be administered polio drops in an effort to curb the spread of the virus.

Health authorities continue to urge parents to ensure vaccination of their children, emphasizing that repeated immunization is critical to achieving a polio-free Pakistan.
