Over 12,000 rescuers deployed for Ashura,routine emergencies in Punjab

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jun, 2026) Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) remained on high alert across the province on Youm-e-Ashura (10th Muharram-ul-Haram),deploying more than 12,000 rescuers,ambulances and emergency vehicles to ensure prompt response during mourning processions,Majalis and routine emergencies.

According to Rescue Punjab spokesperson,the province-wide emergency arrangements were made on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister(CM),Maryam Nawaz Sharif to provide uninterrupted rescue services and ensure public safety during Ashura.

Secretary Emergency Services Department,Dr.Rizwan Naseer told media on Friday that more than 12,000 rescuers had been deployed across Punjab for both Ashura duties and routine rescue operations.

He said the emergency fleet comprised 896 ambulances,over 2,300 rescue motorbikes and 316 fire,rescue and specialized emergency vehicles positioned across the province.

In Lahore,more than 1,300 rescuers had been deployed, supported by 55 emergency ambulances, 300 rescue motorbikes and 44 fire, rescue and specialized emergency vehicles.

Dr Rizwan Naseer said Rescue 1122 had established more than 1,000 additional emergency posts at key locations throughout Punjab.

Rescue personnel equipped with medical kits had been stationed near mourning processions and Majalis to provide immediate medical assistance whenever required.

He said the Provincial Emergency Operations Center was continuously monitoring rescue activities across the province while District Emergency Officers were personally commanding and supervising rescue operations in their respective districts.

The secretary said Rescue 1122 was ensuring that routine emergency operations continued alongside Ashura duties with alternative routes being used to maintain timely emergency response despite traffic diversions.

He emphasized that providing immediate rescue services to the public remained the department’s top priority and urged citizens to dial the Rescue 1122 helpline in case of any emergency.
