Overseas Pakistanis playing vital role in strengthening economy, promoting country's positive image: Governor Sindh

KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th May, 2026) Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi has said that Overseas Pakistanis are the true ambassadors of the country who are not only contributing significantly to strengthening Pakistan’s economy but are also projecting a positive image of the country across the world.

He expressed these views while addressing a special meeting hosted by the Consul General of Pakistan in Houston during his visit to the United States.

During the visit, the Governor met Overseas Pakistanis, community leaders, and representatives of various organizations in Houston and Dallas, where detailed discussions were held on Pakistan-US relations, national development, the role of Overseas Pakistanis, the achievements of Marka-e-Haq, and the vision of Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

According to a statement issued by the Governor House spokesperson, Governor Sindh said that the government is committed to providing Overseas Pakistanis with a more active role in the national development process.

On the occasion, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, along with Syed Qamar Raza, Tanveer Ahmed, Ejaz Hassan, Chaudhry Ayaz, Aqib Shah, and Dr. Asif Qadeer, attended the gathering. Consul General Aftab Chaudhry said that such interactions are highly important for bringing Overseas Pakistanis together and strengthening mutual connections, adding that the Pakistani diaspora continues to play a key role in enhancing bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United States.

Earlier, upon his arrival in Houston, Governor Sindh was warmly received by Consul General Aftab Chaudhry and distinguished members of the Pakistani community.

Later, Governor Sindh attended prestigious commemorative ceremonies organized by Overseas Pakistanis in Dallas and Houston to mark the completion of one year of Marka-e-Haq (Bunyan-un-Marsoos) as the chief guest. During the events, participants paid rich tribute to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Asim Munir, Pakistan Air Force, and Pakistan Navy for their achievements in Marka-e-Haq.

Addressing the ceremonies, Governor Sindh described Marka-e-Haq as one of the greatest battles in modern history, stating that Pakistan’s armed forces defeated a much larger enemy with exceptional courage and professionalism. He said the victory reflected the unity of the nation, the professional excellence of the armed forces, and the unwavering resolve of the leadership.

Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi said Pakistan’s progress and stability depend on national unity, collective thinking, and continuous hard work.

He termed Overseas Pakistanis a valuable national asset and said their remittances serve as the backbone of the country’s economy under the prevailing economic circumstances.

He urged Overseas Pakistanis to continue supporting efforts aimed at improving foreign exchange reserves, promoting economic self-reliance, and encouraging investment in Pakistan. The Governor added that the government is taking serious measures to resolve issues faced by Pakistanis living abroad and to involve them more effectively in the country’s development process.

He further said that Pakistan has demonstrated its strength and capabilities in the defence sector, and the nation must now unite to achieve progress in the economic, educational, and scientific fields. Paying tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, he said visionary leadership guides nations through crises towards prosperity and development.

Chairman Overseas Pakistanis Foundation Syed Qamar Raza and other community leaders also addressed the ceremonies and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Pakistan’s development, stability, and positive image globally. Special prayers were offered for the peace, progress, and prosperity of Pakistan.

During his US visit, Governor Sindh also visited the Quaid-e-Azam Foundation Houston, where he watched a special documentary highlighting the life, struggle, and historic role of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the creation of Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that the golden principles of Quaid-e-Azam continue to guide the nation towards unity, stability, and development, stressing the need to familiarize younger generations with his vision and ideology.

Appreciating the services of Overseas Pakistanis, he described them as ambassadors of Pakistan’s national identity who are playing an important role in promoting the country’s positive image worldwide.

A founding member of the Quaid-e-Azam Foundation Houston welcomed the Governor by presenting him with the foundation’s badge. Matters of mutual interest and the promotion of Quaid-e-Azam’s message were also discussed during the visit. Governor Sindh also recorded his impressions in the guest book. Founding members of the foundation, including Tanveer Ahmed, Tahir Bhatti, and Dr. Asif Qadeer, were also present on the occasion.
