Pakistan backs US-Iran talks scheduled for June 21 in Switzerland

Sources said a high-level Pakistani delegation is expected to travel to Switzerland for the talks.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will facilitate technical-level talks between the United States and Iran in Switzerland on June 21, the Foreign Office said on Saturday.

According to an official statement, the discussions will take place in the Swiss town of Bürgenstock following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Islamabad, Washington and Tehran aimed at advancing diplomatic engagement.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said representatives from the United States and Iran will participate in the talks, while mediating delegates from Pakistan and Qatar will also attend in a facilitation role.

Pakistan said it will continue to support the process as a mediator to help implement understandings reached under the memorandum and promote further diplomatic progress between the two countries.

The spokesperson added that Islamabad remains committed to promoting peace, stability and the peaceful resolution of conflicts in the region through constructive diplomatic engagement.

Sources said a high-level Pakistani delegation is expected to travel to Switzerland for the talks.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has arrived in Tehran as part of efforts to support the diplomatic process. During his visit, he met Iran’s foreign minister to discuss matters of mutual interest and ongoing developments related to the talks.
