KOHAT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Mar, 2026) A large-scale tree plantation drive was launched in Kohat on Pakistan Day under the “Green Khyber Pakhtunkhwa” vision, as Additional Assistant Commissioner-III Syed Mukhtiar Shah inaugurated the campaign at Circuit House by planting saplings. The initiative marked the beginning of the district’s spring afforestation efforts, aimed at environmental protection and a cleaner Pakistan, while citizens were urged to participate actively in making their surroundings green.

In line with the government’s target of planting one million saplings in a single day, a major plantation ceremony was also organized at Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST). The event was jointly inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nawaz Wazir and Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Syed Zafar Ilyas, who planted saplings alongside faculty, students, and staff, meanwhile the campaign witnessed enthusiastic participation from all segments of society.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Nawaz Wazir highlighted that climate change has posed serious challenges including water scarcity, declining soil fertility, and air pollution. He stressed that tree plantation is a practical and effective solution to these issues, therefore emphasizing the need for collective efforts to protect the environment and public health. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to ensuring the campaign’s success.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Zafar Ilyas remarked that planting trees is both a national responsibility and an ecological necessity. Furthermore, officials from the Forest Department and representatives of the private sector attended the ceremony, while saplings were planted across the university campus. Participants collectively pledged to continue such initiatives, consequently reinforcing the vision of a greener and healthier Pakistan.
