ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) Pakistan participated in the 10th Review Meeting of the Convention on Nuclear Safety (CNS), held under the auspices of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna from April 13-24, 2026.
Pakistan has been a State Party to the Convention on Nuclear Safety since 1997 and continues to implement its obligations effectively.
It is a matter of national distinction that Pakistan presided over the 10th Review Meeting of the Convention.
The Pakistani delegation was led by Chairman of the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA), Mr. Zia Hussain Shah, and included senior officials from PNRA, the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), Pakistan’s Permanent Mission in Vienna, and technical experts.
The delegation engaged constructively with other State Parties, presenting Pakistan’s implementation of its obligations and participating actively in the peer review process.
During the meeting, Pakistan presented its National Report, highlighting the country’s strong nuclear safety framework and ongoing improvements in its regulatory infrastructure.
The delegation underscored Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety across all nuclear installations, including effective oversight of nuclear power plants.
Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to the objectives of the Convention on Nuclear Safety.
Its participation reflects continued efforts to contribute to the global nuclear safety regime under the IAEA framework.
The international community also acknowledged Pakistan’s support programme for newcomer countries in developing and implementing regulatory oversight for nuclear power projects.
