Decision has been taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State Talal Chaudhry, which was attended by senior officials from Interior Ministry, passport authorities, and immigration departments
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 30th, 2026) The Federal government has reduced the processing time for issuance of normal passports from 21 days to 14 days, officials said on Thursday, as part of broader reforms to improve public service delivery.
The decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State Talal Chaudhry, which was attended by senior officials from the Interior Ministry, passport authorities, and immigration departments.
Officials informed the meeting that the revised timeline for standard passport delivery has been officially implemented nationwide, aiming to facilitate citizens and reduce delays in documentation services.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing efforts to introduce a fully cashless payment system in all passport offices. Authorities were directed to complete the transition within 15 days to improve transparency and reduce manual cash handling.
In addition, steps were approved to strengthen the home delivery system for passports, allowing applicants to receive documents at their doorstep more efficiently.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said the elimination of cash transactions would help curb the role of middlemen and ensure greater convenience for applicants. He stressed that reforms in the passport system were aimed at modernisation and improved governance.
Officials also discussed plans for introducing a separate business passport system, with the minister directing authorities to expedite work on its finalisation and implementation.
The reforms are part of a broader effort to streamline immigration and passport services across the country and improve public access to essential documentation facilities.
