Pakistan resumes potato exports to Russia after market reopening

MOSCOW, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Apr, 2026) Pakistan has resumed potato exports to the Russian Federation following authorization by the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance to allow imports from Pakistan with effect from April 8, marking a significant breakthrough for the country’s agricultural exports.

The development comes as a result of sustained technical engagement and coordinated efforts led by the Embassy of Pakistan in Moscow in collaboration with the Ministry of National food Security and Research, the Department of Plant Protection, and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan.

Russian authorities have initially approved three Pakistani exporters under a phased approach to reopening the market, with additional exporters expected to be registered in the coming weeks as trade volumes expand.

The resumption of exports coincides with a bumper potato harvest in Pakistan estimated at around 12 million tonnes, providing an important opportunity to channel surplus production to international markets. The reopening of the Russian market is expected to support price stability in the domestic market, enhance foreign exchange earnings, and ensure better returns for farmers on their record harvest.

The officials said the Embassy of Pakistan in Moscow will continue its efforts to diversify export destinations and further strengthen bilateral economic cooperation between Pakistan and Russia, particularly in the agricultural sector.
