FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Apr, 2026) Ulema Council Pakistan (UCP) Chairman Sahibzada Zahid Mahmood Qasmi on Friday said that progress in the Islamabad peace talks and Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts were commendable, describing them as imperative not only for regional stability but also for global peace.
Addressing a Juma congregation at Jamia Masjid Gol, he said that Pakistan’s role as a mediator between the United States and Iran at the international level was a matter of pride for the nation.
He said that the initiatives taken by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir along with the political and military leadership reflected the country’s seriousness in playing an effective role for global peace. He termed the recent measures to make the negotiations successful as highly appreciable.
Zahid Qasmi highlighted that Pakistan’s hosting of the peace talks had enhanced its diplomatic stature.
The dialogue process carried significant importance for lasting peace in the region and beyond, he added.
He also praised the strong ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, stating that their cooperation was a positive step towards regional stability. He said that the sincere efforts and support of Saudi Arabia along with friendly countries such as Turkiye and Qatar had further strengthened the peace process and added credibility to Pakistan’s global peace mission.
He said that the entire nation was praying for the success of Islamabad talks and expressed hope that the ceasefire would transform into lasting peace. These efforts would not only help reduce tensions between the United States and Iran but also pave way for prosperity and peace across the world particularly in the region and for the people of Palestine, he added.
