Pakistan Women’s National Hockey Development Plan announced

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Jun, 2026) The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), in collaboration with provincial associations, has announced a structured national development plan for women’s hockey following the upcoming National Girls Hockey Championship scheduled for July 2026.

The championship will serve as a key talent identification platform aimed at strengthening and expanding the national women’s hockey program on modern, merit-based lines, said a press release.

National Selection and High-Performance Camp: Immediately after the conclusion of the championship, a national selection committee will identify a pool of 30–40 outstanding players based on performance, fitness, and potential. These players will be invited to a centralized high-performance training camp to be held in Islamabad.

The camp will focus on advanced technical training, tactical development, physical conditioning, and mental strength enhancement under a structured coaching system.

Formation of Core National Squad: Following the training phase, a core national squad of 15–18 players will be finalized.

This squad will represent Pakistan in upcoming international assignments and friendly matches.

International Exposure Plan: The federation is actively working to arrange international friendly matches and exposure tours to strengthen competitiveness at the Asian level. Engagements with regional hockey nations and participation in international training camps are part of the road map.

Long-Term Development Strategy: The PHF emphasized the importance of establishing a sustainable pipeline through: Provincial and regional women’s hockey academies; Under-16 and Under-18 development programs; Regular inter-school and inter-college competitions; Coaching modernization and professional training support.

Vision: The initiative reflects Pakistan’s commitment to reviving women’s hockey and building a competitive national team capable of performing at the Asian and international levels.

A PHF spokesperson stated that the national championship marks “not the end, but the beginning of a structured journey toward excellence in women’s hockey.”
