MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Apr, 2026) A joint meeting of the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) and All Pakistan Oil Mills Association (APOMA) here Tuesday expressed resolve to improve business practices, pay all applicable taxes and pledged to accelerate efforts to convince the government to abolish taxes on cotton and related products.
Held at PCGA House in Multan with PCGA Chairman Sham Lal Mangalani in the chair, the participants discussed in detail a roadmap for strengthening mutual cooperation between the cotton ginning and oil mills sectors.
Speaking on the occasion, the PCGA chairman expressed grave concerns over the sharp decline in cotton production and added that the number of ginning factories had also reduced from 1,200 to nearly 600. He said the association was making efforts to get taxes abolished on cotton, cottonseed, oilcake and edible oil.
Chairman APOMA Khawaja Muhammad Fazil urged the PCGA leadership to continue its efforts for the abolition of sales tax on cotton seed and heavy taxation on the ginning sector.
The meeting noted that excessive taxes had severely affected both the ginning and oil industries.
Participants shared the challenges being faced in their respective sectors and agreed on a joint strategy to address them. It was decided that, for improvement in business practices, all transactions would be carried out with proper invoicing and that all applicable taxes would be paid.
The meeting also demanded the government to take immediate action against unregistered oil mills and to activate the Dispute Resolution Committee/Tribunal to ensure prompt settlement of disputes.
Among others, those who attended the meeting included former PCGA chairmen Haji Muhammad Akram, Sohail Mahmood Harl, Mukesh Kumar, former SVC Madan Lal, Muhammad Mazhar Shoaib Khan, and Abdul Razzaq, besides Muhammad Farooq, Sheikh Waqas Liaqat and Mustafa Kamal from APOMA.
