RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd Jun, 2026) Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has intensified its campaign against food adulteration, destroying 2,800 litres of adulterated milk and imposing a fine of Rs50,000 on the owner of a milk supply vehicle during a major operation at the motorway toll plaza in Rawalpindi.

According to PFA spokesperson, a milk tanker carrying 5,000 litres of milk was stopped and inspected during a checkpoint operation.

Samples were tested using modern screening equipment, which revealed that a substantial quantity of water had been mixed into the milk.

Following the inspection, 2,800 litres of substandard milk were discarded on the spot to prevent it from reaching consumers, while the vehicle owner was fined for violating food safety regulations.

Health experts warn that the addition of water and other harmful substances to milk not only reduces its nutritional value but can also pose serious health risks, particularly to children, the elderly and people suffering from various illnesses.

The authority official said millions of litres of milk are supplied daily to Rawalpindi and surrounding areas, making continuous monitoring essential.

To curb adulteration, surprise checkpoints are regularly established on motorways, highways and key entry and exit routes to inspect milk transportation vehicles.

The official reiterated that food adulteration is a serious offence and vowed to continue strict action against those involved in the illegal practice. He emphasized that public health cannot be compromised and that ensuring the availability of safe and quality food remains the authority’s top priority.
