MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jun, 2026) Punjab Food Authority Director General Syed Musa Raza paid a surprise visit to Multan on Wednesday, where he reviewed official affairs, monitored ongoing enforcement operations and personally supervised inspections that led to the seizure and destruction of large quantities of unsafe food products.
During his visit, the DG chaired a meeting at the Regional Directorate office to review administrative performance, ongoing operations and the efficiency of food safety teams.
He directed officials to further strengthen food quality monitoring and ensure strict implementation of food safety laws across the region.
Following the meeting, Syed Musa Raza, accompanied by Additional Director Operations Asad Ullah, conducted surprise inspections of three major food production units located in Basti Ali Wala, Gardezi Mor Adda Lar and Khanewal road. The inspections exposed serious violations of food safety regulations.
According to PFA spokesperson, officials found a fat-rendering unit producing and supplying loose cooking oil prepared from animal fat without a valid food licence or environmental registration.

In a separate operation, the team recovered 18,000 kilograms of foul-smelling, fungus-infested and hazardous pickles from a manufacturing facility operating in highly unhygienic conditions. The contaminated stock, deemed unfit for human consumption, was destroyed on the spot.
Meanwhile, a sweets production unit was fined Rs100,000 for using substandard ingredients in the preparation of Sohan Halwa, a popular traditional sweet.
Speaking on the occasion, Syed Musa Raza, said that ensuring the availability of safe, quality and adulteration-free food to the public was top priority.
He reaffirmed the authority’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against food business operators who endanger public health.
“The crackdown against food adulteration and unhygienic production practices will continue across Punjab without discrimination. Food business operators must strictly comply with the law or face stringent legal action,” he concluded.
