LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Apr, 2026) An enforcement team of Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has discarded 62,000 kilograms of fungus infected and hazardous cheese during a 20-hour long operation, while busting a major network involved in the production of unsafe food.
Action was taken on the directions of Director General PFA Muhammad Asim Javaid, as Additional Director General Operations Asad Ullah led a raid on a cheese factory located near Khanpur Canal. One suspect was arrested on the spot, while an FIR has been lodged against five individuals including the owner.
PFA’s food safety teams recovered large quantities of expired, fungus-contaminated and unfit cheese, including mozzarella, cheddar and burger slices from a cold storage facility, which were immediately discarded.
Inspection revealed severe unhygienic conditions, with the presence of rodents, insects and excessive filth inside the unit, while termite-infested raw materials were also found in storage.
DG PFA said that the unit was operating in clear violation of food safety laws and failed to present mandatory records. He said that timely action by PFA prevented the supply of hazardous products into the market, as the factory was sealed and all stock was discarded.
