PIC Chief calls for cardiac awareness, highlights CM vision for modern healthcare facilities

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Apr, 2026) Chairman of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Dr. Muhammad Farqad Alamgir, on Monday highlighted awareness of cardiac and heart diseases, stressing timely screening, routine tests, empty-stomach walking, small frequent meals, disciplined control of blood sugar, vigilant blood pressure management, while stating that under the Chief Minister PIC is being developed with modern facilities, new hospitals, enhanced budget support.

While speaking exclusively to ptv news, Chairman of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Dr. Muhammad Farqad Alamgir, said that under the Chief Minister’s vision, free treatment for all cardiac patients is being ensured along with up gradation and establishment of new hospitals in Sahiwal, Gujranwala, Sargodha and Lahore, supported by a substantial budget, free medicines and additional healthcare facilities.

He emphasized awareness of cardiac diseases, stressing timely screening and early diagnosis as key to prevention along with healthy lifestyle practices for better heart care.

He further advised the public to adopt essential cardiac precautions, including regular screening, timely medical checkups, balanced diet, routine physical activity, avoidance of smoking, stress management and strict control of blood pressure and blood sugar to reduce the risk of heart diseases and ensure better long-term heart health.

Responding a question, Dr. Alamgir added that the PIC development project is being accelerated to modernize cardiac infrastructure, expand patient capacity, and strengthen emergency response services across Punjab.

He further said that advanced facilities for children’s heart surgery are being enhanced to provide better treatment outcomes, while appreciating the MASH management for their dedication and commitment to patient

care.

Responding to another query, Dr. Muhammad Farqad Alamgir stated that the number of cardiac patients is increasing annually, adding that the Chief Minister is taking emergency measures to meet the growing demand for quality cardiac care in Punjab through expanded facilities, improved infrastructure, and strengthened healthcare services across the

province.

Concluding, he admired the Chief Minister’s vision, calling it highly commendable for introducing additional facilities, transforming healthcare delivery, and strengthening cardiac services across Punjab.
