LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th May, 2026) Punjab Police are continuing a vigorous crackdown against electricity thieves across the province and have arrested 17,954 accused so far this year.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, 24,356 cases of electricity theft have been registered across Punjab, including Lahore, during the ongoing campaign.

The spokesperson said challans in 15,698 cases had been completed, while courts awarded punishments and fines to 2,448 accused involved in electricity theft.

In Lahore alone, police registered 5,757 cases of electricity theft and arrested 6,484 accused during the current year.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem directed all field formations to continue strict action against electricity thieves causing losses to the national exchequer.

He said priority-based operations against elements involved in electricity theft should continue across the province.
