PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th May, 2026) An exchange of fire took place between Cantonment police station personnel and a notorious gang allegedly involved in robbery and drug trafficking in Bannu district on Saturday.
According to DPO Bannu, one suspect was arrested in injured condition, while crystal meth drugs and weapons were recovered.
District police officer (DPO) Bannu, Yasir Afridi, received intelligence reports that five armed suspects were present near the Sokari Hasankhel graveyard area with the intention of committing theft and robbery.
After immediate verification of the information, the DPO issued clear instructions to Cantt Police for prompt action.
SHO Cantt Police Station, Tariq Mahmood, along with a police team, launched an immediate search operation in the area. During the operation, as soon as the suspects saw the police, they opened indiscriminate fire on the police party with intent to kill in an attempt to avoid arrest. In response, the police carried out a careful and effective retaliatory action in self-defense.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>After the exchange of fire, during the continued search operation, one suspect was found lying injured on the ground and a pistol in his possession was recovered before he was taken into custody, while his accomplices managed to escape under the cover of darkness.
The arrested suspect was identified as a proclaimed offender and notorious drug dealer Asim, son of Gul Sarwar Shah, resident of Piran Dawood Shah.
Police recovered 209 grams of crystal meth, one pistol, and equipment used for drug dealing from the suspect’s possession.
The injured suspect was shifted to a nearby hospital for immediate medical treatment, while a search operation is still underway in the area to arrest the escaped suspects.
According to preliminary records, the arrested suspect was wanted in three cases registered at Cantt Police Station, including drug trafficking, theft, robbery, and facilitation, and was also a proclaimed offender in multiple cases.
