DERA ISMAIL KHAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd May, 2026) In a major initiative aimed at safeguarding the rights of women and children and improving their access to justice, the Women Protection Centers and Gender-Based Women and Child Protection Desks have been established across the Dera Range.
The initiative was launched on the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed and Regional Police Officer Dera Ismail Khan Ghulam Mubashir Mekan. The protection desks have been made operational at the Regional Police Office as well as all District Police Offices and Police Facilitation Centers in Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, South Waziristan Upper and South Waziristan Lower.
According to officials, trained female police personnel would remain available at these desks round the clock to assist women and children by registering complaints, providing legal guidance, and ensuring immediate response in sensitive cases. The project aimed to provide victims with a secure, respectful and confidential environment.
The women wold be able to lodge complaints regarding harassment, domestic violence, inheritance and family disputes, fraud, and other legal matters related to women and children through direct or online channels.
The newly established desks would also provide emergency protection and priority response in cases involving threats to life and property.

The police spokesman said strict confidentiality measures had also been introduced, allowing complainants to keep their identities undisclosed if they wish.
As part of the initiative, awareness campaigns regarding women’s legal rights wold also be conducted in schools, colleges, universities and community forums to promote legal awareness and encourage women to seek assistance without fear.
He said that the core objectives of the project included ensuring the legal and human rights of women and children, improving access to justice, preventing harassment and exploitation, strengthening trust between law enforcement and the public, and guaranteeing dignity and privacy in sensitive cases.
He further said that women facing difficulties in the registration of cases would also be provided guidance and legal support to help ensure justice in accordance with legal procedures.
Special contact numbers and email addresses have been issued for women seeking assistance across all districts of the Dera Range, while complaints received through official social media platforms would also be addressed promptly and confidentially.
