Police foil terrorist attack on Mazangah checkpost, kill one attacker

BANNU, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) The district police here successfully foiled a terrorist attack on Mazangah checkpost after a timely and effective response by police personnel, resulting in the killing of one terrorist and injuries to at least five others, police said on Wednesday.

According to official release issued, the attack took place at around 1:20 a.m. when a large number of heavily armed terrorists launched an assault on the checkpost.

The alert and brave police personnel deployed at the post responded immediately with a well-organized and courageous counter-operation, thwarting the attackers’ attempt and forcing them to retreat.

The exchange of fire between terrorists and police continued until Wednesday morning. District Police Officer Bannu Yasir Afridi, along with DSP Arshad Khan, Rapid Response Force (RRF) and Quick Response Force (QRF) teams, reached the site promptly to supervise the operation.

During a subsequent search operation in the area, police recovered one dead body of a terrorist from the scene, while blood traces were found at multiple locations, indicating that several attackers were injured.

Police said the terrorists managed to flee under the cover of darkness while taking their dead and injured companions with them.

The police also recovered magazines, hand grenades, a bandolier, a ladder, shoes, a shawl and other items left behind by the fleeing attackers.

During the operation, Constable Fareedullah sustained minor injuries while fighting bravely and was immediately shifted to hospital for medical treatment.

Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed praised the Bannu police personnel for successfully defending the checkpost and announced cash rewards and commendation certificates for the police team.

He said KP Police remained a frontline force against terrorism and stood firm on every front to protect the people.

Regional Police Officer Bannu Sajjad Khan also commended the bravery of Bannu police and said the force stood like a wall of steel against all forms of terrorism.
