Power Division introduces QR code system to show subsidy details on bills

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th May, 2026) The Power Division on Thursday announced that electricity distribution companies have introduced a new mechanism to ensure transparency and facilitate consumers receiving government electricity subsidies.

According to a spokesperson for the Power Division, monthly electricity bills of subsidized consumers will now clearly mention the exact amount of subsidy provided by the government for that month.

The ministry said the initiative had been taken to ensure that subsidies continued to reach deserving and eligible consumers in a transparent manner.

Under the new system, a QR code will be printed on electricity bills. Consumers will be required to scan the code and complete a registration process through an online link.

The spokesperson clarified that the registration process was aimed solely at ensuring continued relief for poor and low electricity-consuming households.

The Power Division emphasized that the initiative did not mean the withdrawal of subsidies in any way.

“The government remains committed to providing relief to poor and middle-class consumers, and the objective of this exercise is to ensure fair and effective utilization of resources so that taxpayers’ money is not wasted,” the spokesperson said.

Consumers were urged to complete registration through the QR code at the earliest to ensure uninterrupted continuation of subsidy benefits for eligible electricity users.

The ministry further said that consumers facing any issue regarding their bills or registration process could contact the helpline of their respective electricity distribution company.

The government, the spokesperson added, remained committed to providing relief to poor and middle-income households despite economic pressures and fiscal constraints.
