Practical work on Greenfield international airport starts in Faisalabad

FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Apr, 2026) An meeting regarding establishment of a new Greenfield International Airport in Faisalabad was held here on Wednesday.

The meeting announced the commencement of practical work on the project under an agreement signed between Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) and world-renowned aviation consultant firm DAR Al-Handasah, in collaboration with local partner OCL-Asian.

Deputy Director General Pakistan Airports Authority Engr Sameer Saeed chaired the meeting. President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Farooq Yousuf Sheikh, Vice Chancellor Women University Faisalabad Prof. Dr. Kanwal Amin, business community, airport security force, customs, police, district administration, key stakeholders associated with the aviation sector and media representatives were present.

While informing the participants about the project, Deputy Director General Engr Sameer Saeed said that the establishment of a Greenfield Airport in Faisalabad will prove to be a milestone for the city, the region and the country's economy and this mega project would require about 2,000 to 2,500 acres of land.

He said that the project also has the potential for public-private partnership to provide world-class facilities.

He added that the Pakistan Airports Authority wants to establish a complete, comprehensive and future-need based airport in accordance with modern requirements, for which the services of international consultants have been hired.

During the meeting, the experts from the consulting firm DAR Al-Handasah gave an initial presentation based on various aspects of the project and said that the project would consist of 9 phases, which would include initial data collection, technical review, master planning, environmental and economic analysis, design, review and final recommendations.

The experts said that international standards, sustainability and future needs would be taken into account at every level of the project.

The participants termed the project as auspicious for the industrial, commercial and social development of Faisalabad and said that the establishment of the new airport will significantly increase exports, investment, tourism, employment opportunities and Faisalabad’s connectivity at the global level.

According to experts, the Greenfield Airport project can prove to be a game changer for Central Punjab which will provide modern air facilities not only to Faisalabad but also to the surrounding districts.
