PRBC move to strengthen maritime cooperation after KPT-Constanta MoU

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Apr, 2026) Advisor and Chief Operating Officer, Pakistan Romania Business Council (PRBC) Atif Farooqi called on Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed, Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military), Sitara-e-Basalat, at Karachi Port Trust (KPT) to discuss the advancement of maritime collaboration between Pakistan and Romania.

During the meeting, Mr. Farooqi extended an open official invitation on behalf of the Port of Constanta authorities to the Chairman and Secretary of KPT to visit Romania, marking the next step in the implementation phase of the newly signed port cooperation framework, said a press release received here on Thursday.

This high-level engagement follows the recent signing of a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KPT and the Port of Constanta, Romania on March 31, aimed at boosting maritime cooperation, trade connectivity, and economic relations. The partnership links Pakistan’s principal port with the largest port on the Black Sea, facilitating a new trade route between South Asia and Europe, as envisioned by H.E Dr. Dan Stoenescu, Ambassador of Romania to Pakistan.

Sohail Shamim Firpo, Chairman Pakistan Romania Business Council, was also present in the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, Atif Farooqi appreciated Ambassador Dr. Dan Stoenescu for his dynamic leadership and vision, stating Dr. Dan Stoenescu, Ambassador of Romania has played an instrumental role in conceiving and executing this great initiative of maritime cooperation. His vision to connect Pakistan and Romania through their key ports has set the stage for a new era of bilateral trade and friendship.

In response, Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed, Chairman Karachi Port Trust, commended the efforts of Romanian Ambassador’s team in Karachi Mr. Atif Farooqi and Sohail Shamim Firpo, noting: “We deeply value the proactive efforts of Atif Farooqi and PRBC in strengthening this strategic cooperation with Romania. The relationship between KPT and the Port of Constanta will open broader avenues for economic progress and regional connectivity.”

The collaboration is expected to enhance logistical linkages, port efficiency, and investment opportunities, positioning both Karachi and Constanta as vital gateways for maritime trade between Asia and Europe.
