PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Jun, 2026) In order to ensure supply of clean water, practical work has been started on the projects for replacing worn-out water supply pipelines and installing modern RPC covers on manholes within the limits of Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP).
The project for replacing the water supply distribution network will be completed at a cost of Rs 1.14 billion and the project for installing covers on manholes will be completed at a cost of Rs 125.790 million.
Around 212 kilometers of water supply pipeline will be replaced across the city, while modern covers will be installed on 9561 manholes, which will have a weight bearing capacity of two to 15 tons.
Provincial Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Meena Khan Afridi inaugurated the practical work on the projects.
Secretary Local Government Zafarul islam, CEO WSSP Yasir Ali Khan, KPCIP Project Director Hameedullah Shah and other officials were also present on the occasion.
The completion of the project will ensure the supply of clean water in sufficient quantity while eliminating leakage and illegal connections, protecting water from contamination, reducing operational costs and eliminating the problems of low water supply to consumers away from tube wells, while also controlling water-related diseases.

Local Government Minister Meena Khan Afridi said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is focused on development, projects worth Rs200 billion have been launched for the rehabilitation of Peshawar, including projects in water, irrigation, flyovers, underpasses and other sectors.
He said that rotten pipes are being replaced on priority basis and attention is also being paid to infrastructure. Peshawar has more rights, the government will invest more in it.
He said that in the next few days, projects worth Rs13 billion for construction of flyovers, roads, drains and other sectors will be inaugurated.
He said that information about open manholes should be given on Ehsaas Baldayat and covers will be installed within 24 to 48 hours.
