Proposal to transfer electricity bills of govt schools to domestic tariff

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Mar, 2026) Important steps have been taken in the province to provide relief to government schools from

electricity bills, under which a proposal to transfer the electricity tariff of schools from commercial to

domestic tariff is under consideration.

According to sources, the school education department has regularly contacted the government and

the Punjab Energy Department to reduce the financial pressure.

According to official sources, this step could prove to be a major decision in view of the financial difficulties

faced by schools, as a large part of the non-salary budget is spent on paying electricity bills.

The school education department releases about Rs 16 billion every year, but despite this, schools

continue to face financial pressure.
