ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jun, 2026) Chairman of the Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), Prof. Dr. M. Akmal, visited Karachi's Pakistan Science Foundation-established FABLAB and several leading research institutions to review scientific facilities, monitor ongoing research projects, and reaffirm the foundation's commitment to promoting science, innovation and youth empowerment.
Accompanied by Assistant Director Ms. Afsheen, the chairman visited the state-of-the-art FABLAB at Government Comprehensive Higher Secondary school for Boys, Azizabad, District Central Karachi, and the Comprehensive Girls Secondary School, Azizabad.
Senior Principal Prof. Uzma Naeem welcomed the delegation and briefed the chairman on the educational and technological activities being carried out through the FABLAB facility, said a news release.
During the visit, Prof. Akmal appreciated the role of the FABLAB in equipping students with modern technological skills and promoting innovation, creativity and problem-solving abilities. He said such facilities were essential to preparing young people for emerging global technological challenges and supporting Pakistan's transition towards a knowledge-based economy.
The PSF chairman also visited the Marine Biology Centre at the University of Karachi, where he reviewed students' research on various fish species and their significance for Pakistan's marine resources and economy.

During his Karachi visit, Prof. Akmal also reviewed PSF-funded research projects at the HEJ Research Institute, Aga Khan University and NED University of Engineering and Technology.
He held detailed discussions with principal investigators and research teams on the progress, achievements, challenges and expected outcomes of their projects.
He stressed the importance of translating scientific research into practical solutions that contribute to national development and socioeconomic progress.
Representatives of the host institutions thanked the Pakistan Science Foundation for supporting research and providing students and scientists with opportunities to enhance innovation and compete at international standards through initiatives such as the FABLAB and research support programmes.
The visit reflected the Pakistan Science Foundation's continued commitment to strengthening science education, research excellence, technological advancement and innovation across the country.
