PU’s 250 students to get HEC needs-based scholarship

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Apr, 2026) Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali on Monday said that merit,

transparency, and fairness would remain the guiding principles in the selection of students

for scholarships under the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Needs-Based Scholarship

Programme.

He was addressing a ceremony held in connection with the HEC Needs-Based Scholarship

Programme for the academic year 2025–26, under which a total of 250 deserving students

of Punjab University would be awarded financial assistance.

The Vice Chancellor said the initiative aims to support talented but financially disadvantaged

students in continuing their higher education without economic constraints. He said the programme

reflects the university’s strong commitment to ensuring equal educational opportunities and

promoting academic excellence.

He added that such initiatives play a vital role in empowering students by enabling them

to focus on their studies and contribute positively to society.

He further said the university

was working to expand access to quality education through collaboration with national

institutions and organizations.

Prof Dr Muhammad Ali emphasized that the scholarship distribution process would be strictly

based on academic performance and verified financial need, ensuring that only the most

deserving students benefit from the programme.

Director Planning & Development Prof Dr Hafiz Muhammad Anwar Asghar, faculty members,

and others were also present on the occasion.

The HEC Needs-Based Scholarship Programme was part of a broader national effort

to strengthen the higher education sector by supporting students from underprivileged

backgrounds and promoting inclusive academic growth.
