LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Feb, 2026) The Punjab Agriculture department has taken strict notice of the increasing trend of advertising and selling unapproved varieties of cotton, rice, and other crops on social media platforms and has initiated effective action in this regard.

A spokesman for the department said here on Monday that the promotion and sale of unapproved crop varieties is not only illegal but can also prove extremely harmful to per-acre crop yield.

He further clarified that propaganda regarding the sale of unapproved seed varieties on social media is tantamount to misleading farmers. Any crop shown in videos or images as part of such promotional campaigns will be destroyed, he added. In this regard, legal action will be taken under cyber laws against the elements involved in these advertising campaigns.
