Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has urged the youth to safeguard the country, refrain from violence and protect public property

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Feb, 2026) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has urged the youth to safeguard the country, refrain from violence and protect public property.

Addressing a ceremony in Gujrat for the distribution of Honhaar scholarships and laptops, she described students as the “real heroes and chief guests” of the event, said a handout issued here on Monday.

The CM said the nation’s future rests firmly in their hands and that their responsible conduct, unity and commitment will determine Pakistan’s progress and stability. She added that their enthusiasm and confidence reflected a bright future for Pakistan. She said the scholarship and laptop programme was not merely a routine ceremony but a celebration of students’ hard work and achievement.

She assured that no child would be deprived of education due to lack of resources and that all awards were granted strictly on merit without any political consideration.

Declaring 2026 as the “Year of Youth,” the chief minister said students would shape the country’s future as doctors, engineers and scientists.

She encouraged them to dream big, assuring that the government would stand behind them “like a rock.”

Emphasising national unity, she urged citizens to protect every inch of the country, avoid riots and refrain from damaging public property or green belts. She stressed that political differences must not be turned into personal hostility and advised students never to mock anyone’s illness or personal hardships.

Calling for an end to hatred, misinformation and divisive politics, she said prayers should be offered for the recovery of the sick regardless of political affiliation.

Highlighting youth-focused initiatives, she said students in Punjab are being provided scholarships, laptops, transport facilities and skills support to enhance educational and employment opportunities. She added that the passion shown by students at the ceremony strengthened her belief that the future of every son and daughter of Pakistan is bright.
