Punjab ensured peaceful Ashura through coordinated security plan: Azma Bokhari

FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jun, 2026) Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari on Friday said the provincial government had ensured the peaceful observance of Ashura across Punjab through comprehensive security and administrative arrangements made under the directives of Chief Minister(CM),Maryam Nawaz.

Addressing a press conference at Clock Tower Chowk, she said all departments,including the district administration, police,Rescue 1122,local government institutions and civic agencies, had worked in coordination to implement a province-wide security and facilitation plan.

Bokhari said the chief minister had personally monitored Muharram arrangements to ensure the safety and convenience of mourners participating in processions and religious gatherings.

Referring to the hot weather,she said the government had established drinking water sabeels and deployed anti-smog guns to spray water mist along procession routes and around venues of religious gatherings to provide relief to participants.

She said the arrangements had been appreciated by mourners and religious scholars from different schools of thought. The minister also conveyed the chief minister's appreciation to religious scholars and members of peace committees for promoting sectarian harmony and contributing to the peaceful observance of Muharram.

Bokhari said mobile phone services had been temporarily suspended in sensitive areas on the recommendations of the Punjab Home Department as part of the security plan.

She added that police, law enforcement agencies and district administrations had jointly implemented security measures, while sanitation,lighting,water supply and other civic services had also been ensured.

The minister said authorities were maintaining strict surveillance of social media platforms and taking action against those spreading hate material or inciting unrest.

Paying tribute to Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and the martyrs of Karbala,Bokhari said their sacrifices continued to inspire Muslims to uphold truth, justice,patience and unity.

She added that district administrations in Faisalabad,Jhang,Chiniot and Toba Tek Singh,along with provincial cabinet members, had remained in the field throughout Ashura to oversee security and administrative arrangements.

Expressing satisfaction with the arrangements,she said the Punjab government had further improved this year's Muharram plan and would continue to strengthen public services in the future.
