Thousands flocked take to streets to mourn Karbala martyrs

HYDERABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Jun, 2026) Tens of thousands of mourners flocked to the streets to participate in the mourning processions here on Friday to commemorate and pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala.

As many as 350 big and small processions were organized in the city including the central procession by Anjuman-e-Imamia Sindh.

The procession started from Qadam Gah Moula Ali (RA) in the morning and culminated at Karbala Dadan Shah in the evening as dozens of smallest processions joined the central one en route to the concluding point.

The Hyderabad police's spokesman informed that they deployed around 4,600 policemen for security of the processions, majalis and tazias on the 10th Muharram yom-e-ashur.

He added that 1,400c cops in addition to personnel of Sindh Rangers were provided security to the central procession.

According to him, only one entrance and one exit were being established for that procession.

He told that dozens of roads intersecting the procession on the Qadam Gah, Station and Rahim Shopping Center roads were sealed with barbed wires.

He added that the entire route was monitored with the help of the CCTV cameras whose control room was set up in the City police station while snipers were also placed on the tall buildings.

The spokesman apprised that another 1,500 policemen were deployed with the other processions.

Some 700 cops were deployed with the processions of tazias and another 600 at the Imambargahs where the events of Sham-e-Ghareeban were held, he added. Additionally, 650 policemen manned the entry and exit points of the district.

The 15 Emergency Police, Rapid Response Force and Anti Terrorist Force also patrolled the city.
