Punjab govt allocates Rs 2.5bn for women development in FY2026-27

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Jun, 2026) The Punjab government has allocated Rs 2.5 billion for women development sector

in the fiscal year 2026-27, reaffirming its commitment to women’s empowerment,

economic inclusion and social welfare.

According to budget documents issued here on Tuesday, the allocation will be utilized

for nine development projects, including seven ongoing schemes and two new initiatives

aimed at enhancing women’s participation in economic and social activities across

the province.

Of the total allocation, Rs 902.2 million have been earmarked for ongoing projects,

while more than Rs 1.5 billion will be spent on two new schemes. The new initiatives

include the establishment of “Women’s Empowerment through Communication and

Enterprise” at an estimated cost of Rs 97.

7 million, while Rs 1.5 billion have been

allocated for Punjab Women Empowerment Programme.

Among the ongoing projects, Rs 160 million have been allocated for economic empowerment

initiatives for rural women in the textile sector. An amount of Rs 173.8 million have been

earmarked for the reconstruction of Working Women Hostel in Gujranwala, while Rs 101.4 million

will be utilized for the Strategic Planning and Implementation Unit.

The allocation reflects the provincial government’s focus on improving economic opportunities,

institutional support and welfare facilities for women, enabling them to play a more active role

in the province’s socio-economic development.
